In this course, health care professionals will increase their understanding and skills in providing optimal care to individuals from varying age groups.

In this course, learners will be encouraged to reflect on systemic issues in health care, as well as consider how personal assumptions can influence care. Becoming knowledgeable and more comfortable with often uncomfortable truths, acknowledging differences, and understanding the issues that both health care workers and patients/residents face are steps in breaking down historical barriers and broadening one’s perspectives.

LGBT seniors have faced many challenges that have kept them in the closet or forced them back into the closet because of discrimination and bullying from caregivers and other friends and family. This self-study will help health care staff understand the terminology and basic rights of LGBT seniors in long-term care.

People who are consumers of health care have rights guaranteed to them by federal law. All health care personnel must be familiar with residents’ rights and know how these relate to the care provided. This course is intended to help all health care personnel working in the long-term care setting to increase their knowledge and understanding of federal residents’ rights as well as gain a general understanding of common resident responsibilities.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a novel virus that causes respiratory disease in persons infected, which can range from mild symptoms such as a common cold to more severe diseases – even death. This course provides health care workers with both individual and workplace practices to help prevent the spread of transmission and ultimately keep patients, team members and the public safe.

Welcome to the Florida-specific training on special care of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders.

The State of Florida requires everyone working in a Hospice or nursing facility dedicated to caring for persons with chronic confusion or a dementing illness to complete two modules on care of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders. This is the second of two modules and is the three hour required course.

Health care workers in long-term care are responsible for the health and safety of residents. This course highlights common wandering and elopement behaviors of residents while placing an emphasis on prevention and response measures within the facility.

Health care supervisory personnel will refresh their knowledge related to recognizing substance misuse in the workplace. 

To provide information in accordance with Iowa law that a supervisor needs to develop and/or implement a substance abuse prevention program, including drug and/or alcohol testing, in the workplace setting.

Health care personnel will increase their understanding of the safeguards used to protect themselves and others against the health hazards, which can result from exposure to blood and certain body fluids containing blood-borne pathogens.

Patients in health care facilities are especially vulnerable to a fire. Health care staff must be prepared to respond in the event of a fire. This self-study will help health care staff understand the basics of how fires occur and spread and how to prevent fires. Health care staff will increase their skills in recognizing fire hazards, preventing fires, and options for responding appropriately to a fire emergency.

Healthcare personnel will enhance their understanding of the OSHA hazardous chemical guidelines and how to use Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

The healthcare employee will enhance their recognition of alcohol and other drug (substance) misuse in the workplace setting.

Health care personnel will enhance their understanding of elder abuse and requirements of the Elder Justice Act.

Healthcare personnel will describe the expectations of CMS in promoting and enhancing resident quality of life in the facility.

This two-part course provides an overview of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). The first part covers the reasons for the law, how it is enforced, how the law has changed over time, and how HIPAA relates to the health care industry. The second part is intended to apply your knowledge of HIPAA basics to the workplace.

This course addresses both weather events and manmade threats that create dangers for long-term care residents and staff. Health care workers will learn how to prepare for and respond to such events.

The purpose of this course is to enhance the knowledge of the health care professional in defining, assessing, identifying, increasing awareness, reporting, and caring for older adults who may be suffering from abuse or neglect, whether in a private home or a residential setting.
