Skin/ Wound Care Series

The nurse will enhance her understanding of CMS requirements in preventing pressure ulcers as well as promoting the healing of pressure ulcers that are present.

Health care personnel will increase their care giving skills and understanding of patients with pressure ulcers.

Nurses working with the elderly will review and update their skills for managing urinary incontinence.

The course is centered around identifying the differences and similarities between two types of circulatory ulcers: venous stasis and arterial (ischemic). In addition, treatment measures and preventative techniques for both types are discussed.

The healthcare professional will gain an increased knowledge related to the cause, care, and prevention of the diabetic foot ulcer.

The healthcare professional will gain foundational knowledge of the skin and the factors that affect healing and repair. The healthcare professional will review the NPUAP staging guidelines for pressure ulcers and the risk factors for developing a pressure ulcer. The healthcare professional will review basic strategies that can be used in the management of pressure ulcers.

The participant will enhance her understanding of the skin and its functions.

Upon completion of this series on wound care, the health professional will have an in-depth understanding of wounds, ulcers, complications and current treatments for prevention and healing of a variety of skin issues.
