The nurse will enhance her understanding of CMS requirements in preventing pressure ulcers as well as promoting the healing of pressure ulcers that are present.
Purpose: The nurse will enhance her understanding of CMS requirements in preventing pressure ulcers as well as promoting the healing of pressure ulcers that are present.
Objectives:
- Define terminology related to pressure ulcers;
- Describe how pressure ulcers occur;
- Explain pressure ulcer prevention measures;
- Identify risk factors that increase an individual’s susceptibility to develop or to not heal pressure ulcers;
- Discuss pressure points and tissue tolerance;
- Describe interventions that can be utilized to prevent or treat a pressure ulcer;
- Discuss pressure ulcers, including the three most common types of ulcers, staging, healing, s/s of infection, and dressings and treatment.
