NUR100 - Healthy Aging for Older Adults (1.0 HR)
The participant will enhance their understanding of diseases, chronic illnesses, and mental issues that affect the older adult and discuss ways to promote healthy aging.
Purpose: The United States is on the brink of a longevity revolution. As of the 2020 census, 55.7 million people in the United States were age 65 or older (17% of the population). By 2040, the proportion of the U.S. population aged 65 and older is expected to be about 80 million people (22% of the population). The far-reaching implications of the increasing number of older Americans and their growing diversity will include unprecedented demands on public health, aging services, and the nation's health care system.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Discuss chronic diseases associated with the aging individual.
- Explore prevention measures that can be taken to promote a healthy lifestyle in the aging individual.
- Discuss mental health issues associated with the aging individual.
- Describe health disparities and the aging individual.
