Purpose: The nursing assistant will enhance her skills in providing oral hygiene, safe transfers and dining assistance to the person served.
Objectives:
- List the benefits of good oral hygiene.
- Define periodontal disease;
- Demonstrate the proper procedure for providing oral care and denture care.
- Explain the proper use of a gait belt;
- Demonstrate the proper procedure for a one-person transfer, a two-person transfer, and transferring the person served to and from the toilet using a walker or wheelchair;
- Discuss the use of lift devices for transfers.
- List important elements in providing dining assistance to the person served.
