This course aims to enable the CNA to better understand dysphagia by recognizing signs and symptoms of the disorder and the interventions in patient care needed to aid medication administration, prevent aspiration, maintain hydration, provide adequate nutrition, and aid medication administration.

Objectives:
1. Identify the stages of the swallowing process.
2. Define dysphagia and its common causes.
3. List signs and symptoms of dysphagia.
4. Define aspiration and aspiration pneumonia.
5. Identify treatment approaches used for the dysphagic patient.
6. Identify actions the CNA can implement to promote adequate hydration and nutrition.
