ALL136 – Implicit Bias in Health Care

This course informs health care workers on how implicit biases are formed, their causes, and the harm they can create. Methods for recognizing and reducing implicit biases are provided. 

Objectives 

Upon completion, learners will be able to:

1. Differentiate between the concepts of implicit bias and explicit bias.
2. List two motivational factors that have been linked to eliminating implicit race bias.
3. Describe how ingroup interactions operate in the animal kingdom.
4. Differentiate between the concepts of System 1 and System 2 thinking.
5. Define ability bias.
6. Describe selective attention.
7. Discuss how scanning the environment is a survival mechanism.
8. Describe person-centered care.
9. Identify methods to reduce implicit bias.
