REG109 - Hazardous Weather and Internal Disaster Preparedness (1.0 HR)
This course addresses both weather events and manmade threats that create dangers for long-term care residents and staff. Health care workers will learn how to prepare for and respond to such events.
Purpose: To educate and inform staff about general guidelines to follow during internal disaster situations at healthcare facilities.
Objectives:
- Discuss facility protocol in the event of an internal disaster situation;
- Explore facility evacuation measures;
- Differentiate between weather watch and weather warning situations;
- Discuss safety measures utilized during a tornado warning;
- Explore flooding situations and appropriate clean-up procedures;
- Discuss hazards associated with ice storms;
- Explore dangers associated with blizzard conditions;
- Discuss earthquakes.
