Purpose: The nursing assistant will gain a better understanding of the types, purpose, complications, and care of feeding tubes and a nursing assistant’s role in care of individuals with feeding tube.
Objectives:
- Name the general types of feeding tubes used in a health care setting;
- List conditions that may require feeding tube use;
- Describe complications of feeding tubes that may occur and when to report to the nurse;
- Discuss the nursing assistants role in care of person’s with feeding tubes;
- Explain safety precautions used in care of individuals with feeding tubes during, transfers, re-positioning, bathing and grooming.
