This course meets the requirements for the 2-hour training on Dependent Adult Abuse and is appropriate for any individual who is designated a mandatory reporter by the state of Iowa.

Objectives:

  1. Define dependent adult;
  2. Identify who, by Iowa Code, is considered to be a mandatory reporter of dependent adult abuse;
  3. Discuss agencies in Iowa responsible for investigating reports of dependent adult abuse;
  4. Discuss dependent adult abuse reporting requirements;
  5. List signs of environmental, physical, and behavioral dependent adult abuse;
  6. List signs of environmental, physical, and behavioral dependent adult abuse;
  7. Differentiate among the five categories of dependent adult abuse as outlined by the Code of Iowa for the Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA);
  8. Discuss report conclusions possible following an investigation of dependent adult abuse;
  9. Explore court actions that may be taken on behalf of the dependent adult for: substance abuse commitment, mental health commitment, conservatorship, and guardianship;
  10. Explore record keeping of adult abuse information and parties who are authorized to obtain that information;
  11. Discuss training requirements for the mandatory reporter.
