NUR184 - Urinary Incontinence in the Elderly (1.5 HR)

Purpose: Nurses working with the elderly will review and update their skills for managing urinary incontinence. 

Objectives: 

1. Summarize the prevalence and incidence of urinary incontinence.  
2. Review the types of urinary incontinence.  
3. Discuss appropriate assessment processes for people with urinary incontinence.  
4. List risk factors for urinary incontinence.  
5. Explain tests to diagnose the causes of urinary incontinence.  
6. Review incontinence management programs for use in long-term care facilities and home care settings.  
7. Review guidelines for a urinary incontinence program in long-term care.  
8. List three types of toileting management.  
9. Explain appropriate prevention, treatment, and nursing management techniques.
