Purpose: All staff working in the long term care setting will increase their knowledge and skills in caring for persons diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder.
Objectives:
- Discuss behavior management and challenging behaviors associated with Alzheimer’s disease;
- Explain strategies and techniques for dealing with challenging behaviors;
- Describe problem-solving approaches to challenging behaviors;
- Discuss interventions that are alternatives to restraints;
- List five types of elder abuse;
- Review legal timelines for reporting elder abuse;
- Summarize strategies to prevent elder abuse.
