Purpose: To provide caregivers with the basic information on various diets that may be offered in facilities.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this self-study, participants will be able to:
- Identify the different mechanically altered diets.
- Name at least three common therapeutic diets.
- List the main minerals to be limited in the renal diet.
- Distinguish between a clear liquid diet and a full liquid diet.
- Explain the purpose of thickened liquids.
- List at least three items to be served on a clear liquid diet.
- Define gluten and explain where it can be found.
- Explain how religious practices may require certain diets for some individuals.
